Formed in 2022, Basaalt is a modern alternative metal band from Brittany, France. The band is made up of highly skilled musicians: Alex on vocals and rhythm guitar, Jérémie on lead guitar, and Yoann on bass. In 2025, Butch (former drummer of Akiavel) joined the band, bringing his musicality and technical precision on drums.
Basaalt takes its name from the dark rock found on the ocean floor. Born of fire and forming the abyss, basalt is a primordial stone. In the same way, Basaalt’s universe reflects a mineral world: raw, dense and dark, yet charged with incandescent energy.
Their music explores the contrasts between inner struggles and surges of hope, between deep introspection and the desire for personal and collective elevation.
The band draws inspiration from universal themes such as hope, rebuilding, humanism and the quest for light — “From the Darkness to the Light.”
Since its creation, Basaalt has released a four-track EP, You Can Decide How It Ends (September 2023), followed by three additional singles. In December 2025, the band released a new five-track EP, Carved in Stone, recorded and mixed by David Potvin at Dôme Studio in Angers and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music Studio (New York).
This EP undoubtedly marks a major turning point in the band’s career. The attention given to songwriting, the power of the tracks and the high production quality make it a particularly accomplished release, designed to leave a lasting impression — and the audience clearly embraced it.
The EP’s release was a strong success in terms of streams, feedback and growing recognition. The official music video for the single From the Ashes, filmed by a professional cinema team, was especially well received, widely viewed and shared.
Backed by solid live experience, the band continues its journey with high standards, discipline and ambition. Carved in Stone has established Basaalt as a key player on the French modern metal scene, and building on this momentum, the band is fully committed to confirming its position and expanding its audience both in France and internationally.
